We held our first ever Bursary Ball at Stanley House Hotel and Spa in Mellor on Saturday 16th April 2016 and it raised over £52,000. Nearly 150 guests were treated to a jam-packed evening of fine food and frivolity, all in the name of raising awareness of and funds for our Bursary Campaign.
Patrick Hoffmann (OS ’11) travelled to us from Italy to talk about the benefits of the Stonyhurst Bursary Scheme and how it had changed his life. Speaking eloquently and passionately, Patrick explained his experience of the application process but also the way Stonyhurst encourages students to ‘let their light shine’ and how Stonyhurst has raised his own expectations of himself.
Stonyhurst spends around £1.5 million on fee remission to students and we are extremely grateful to those who have and still give to bursaries and the continued support of the Stonyhurst Family is greatly appreciated.
Patrick Hoffmann closed his speech with the following, very moving words.
“And so my question to you is this: can you imagine anything more worthwhile than creating this opportunity for someone who is ready to grasp it, with both hands, and turn it into the experience of a lifetime? Someone who, thanks to you, can discover their gift to the world?
Can you imagine any more rewarding investment?”
