In 2010 we opened a new Higher Line (Sixth Form) boarding house, named after Thomas Weld, who gifted Stonyhurst to the Jesuits.  Father Michael Holman SJ who was the Provincial of the Jesuits in the British Province at the time attended the official opening by His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester.

Weld House with its 40 en-suite bedrooms, large lounge area, kitchens and accommodation for resident staff, was a significant building project and the first to alter the Stonyhurst frontage in 50 years. The development was overseen by English Heritage and the stone and timber work was completed by Stonyhurst’s own stonemasons and joiners.  The £5 million building cost was partly funded by the generosity of more than 150 OS, parents and former parents and a significant donation from Henry Weld Stewart (OS62)
